MySurrey Account
Allowing Surrey citizens an easy way to track their interactions with the City.
Due to the complexity of the Single Family Dwelling Permit project, the product team had to create an accounts page for applicants to track their statuses post-submission. This meant designing flows for account creation, signing in, viewing statuses, and updating account settings.
Company & Year: City of Surrey, 2018-2019
Role: Early wireframing and final spec design.
Communication and project facilitation with the team.
Presenting design work to the stakeholder(s) for feedback.
Status: The final application is live on the MySurrey Portal. You can create an account and go through services.
Holistic Overview
For the account creation, I designed the sign-in, sign-up, and success screens. This meant collaborating with the design team to ensure consistency, engineering for feasibility, and security for what parameters were necessary for a safe and secure account.
When creating the MySurrey Accounts, we needed to map out every touch point and the journey users would take. This involved frequent discussions with the engineering team as well as IT and security to understand what was feasible and what was required.
My Activities & Details
The premier function of the MySurrey Accounts will be to track the status of your City interactions and to keep a detailed record of these interactions. From an interface standpoint, I needed to design reusable assets that would be flexible enough to be context-dependent.
At the time of release, only three City services were included, but the design needed to be future-forward and scalable to all services. This meant both the search and detail views were scalable for designers and developers.
Final Result & Looking Back
Working with product managers, product owners, and engineering, we released the final account creation and account features onto the MySurrey Portal. We monitored the reception as users began to interact with it, using analytics to see device usage and errors.
Revisiting this project, Iād like to have had the opportunity to user test with actual users, instead of relying on internal usability testing with City staff members. Similarly, with my UI experience now, I feel strongly that I could have created a more elegant design with reduced clutter and tight spacing.
